UCL 2023/2024 – MANCHESTER UNITED LOSE

CHAMPION LEAGUE: Manchester United were unlucky when they narrowly lost   1-0 to Bayern Munich early this morning. Even more embarrassing was the defeat at home, the Old Trafford stadium. Manchester United completed a terrible Champions League campaign when they collected 5 points from 6 games for the Red Devils.

Kingsley Coman scored the only goal in the 70th minute for the German champions, who had already secured their place in the last 16, thus denying United the chance to at least continue in the Europa League.

United is currently sixth in the Premier League, and manager Erik ten Hag is under more pressure after a humiliating early departure from Europe’s premier competition.

United’s Champions League hopes have been hit hard from the start of the competition as they failed to win three of their four games against Copenhagen and Galatasaray.

It was only the fourth time an English club finished bottom of a Champions League group.

Ten Hag’s United continued to be hit by crisis last Saturday when Bournemouth won for the first time at Old Trafford and took home three points with a comfortable 3-0 victory.

The United manager recalled Raphael Varane to the starting line-up for the first time in almost two months.

The French defender was surprisingly left out by Ten Hag, but is expected to play a key role in the coming weeks when Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw were ruled out earlier this morning with injuries.

  • Manchester United lost again in the Champions League

In an unexpected turn of events, Manchester United suffered a serious setback and are on the brink of an early exit from the Champions League after losing 3-4 to FC Copenhagen. Marcus Rashford’s red card changed the course of the game unexpectedly and put United in a very weak position. Rasmus Hojlund, a former player, took advantage of the situation and haunted his old team with two important goals in the first thirty minutes. United, who were originally expected to win, are now in a vulnerable position, raising concerns about the future of their campaign in the venerable competition

However, United’s momentum was hampered by Rashford’s red card, and they are now in danger of relegation following their third loss in four Group A games.

Before the half, the hosts equalized through penalties from Mohamed Elyounoussi and Diogo Goncalves.

United took the lead again through a penalty kick from Bruno Fernandes, but Lukas Lerager and Roony Bardghji scored twice in the final seven minutes to give Copenhagen its first UCL victory since 2016.

With two difficult games left, United is presently bottom of the group. On November 29, they play third-place Galatasaray, who have four points, and on December 12, they host Bayern Munich, who have already advanced to the knockout stages.

  • Pepe has become the Champions League’s oldest goal scorer.

Fans of football witnessed a momentous occasion in the Champions League as seasoned Portuguese defender Pepe made waves with his incredible feat. With his late header against Royal Antwerp in FC Porto’s Group H match, Pepe became the oldest goal scorer in the tournament’s storied history.

In the 91st minute, Pepe, who is 40 years and 254 days old, scored his team’s second goal, making history as the first player beyond 40 to score in European football.

At 38 years and 59 days, Francesco Totti was the previous record holder for the oldest goalscorer.

Pepe broke the record when he began against Royal Antwerp on October 25, making him the oldest player in Champions League history (a goalkeeper excepted).

The oldest player in the tournament’s history is goalie Marco Ballotta. When he played for Lazio against Real Madrid in December 2007, he was forty-three years and twenty-five days old.

In addition to Pepe and Totti, Ryan Giggs of Manchester United, who is 37 years old, is the player recorded as the oldest goalscorer in Champions League history.
