The Sarawak Sports Games (SUKSAR) III, will take place in Sibu from January 15–18, will feature 13 sporting competitions.
Athletes who are 21 years of age or younger, have never taken home a gold medal from the Sarawak Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, and are not a part of the national backup program are eligible to compete in SUKSAR III.
Abdul Karim who is also Sarawak’s Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts said in addition, the organization of SUKSAR also aims to introduce core sports throughout Sarawak according to Zone breakdown.
Kuching, Samarahan and Serian divisions represent the Southern Zone; parts of Sri Aman, Betong and Sarikei (West Zone); parts of Sibu, Mukah and Kapit (Central Zone) and the North Zone is a combination of three parts namely Bintulu, Miri and Limbang.
“Among the sports events contested over the four days are weightlifting, cycling, basketball, volleyball, futsal, hockey, judo, karate, pencak silat, sepak takraw, boxing, taekwondo and wushu,” he said.
Abdul Karim said the opening event scheduled to take place at the Sibu Indoor Stadium will be attended by him while Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is scheduled to complete the closing ceremony.
SUKMA 2024 in Sarawak will take place from 17 to 24 August.
