MALAYSIA DRAWS RM16.2 BILLION IN DIGITAL INVESTMENTS, CEMENTS ROLE AS ASEAN TECH POWERHOUSE

PENANG, 29 April 2025 – Malaysia’s digital economy continues to gain momentum, solidifying its role as a key driver of national growth. With RM16.2 billion in approved digital investments from January to April 2025 under the Malaysia Digital (MD) initiative, the country is seeing a surge in job creation, innovation, and economic opportunity. This strong investment trend, announced by Minister of Digital Gobind Singh Deo at the launch of the Ministry of Digital’s Northern Regional Office, is projected to generate 6,480 high-value jobs, reinforcing Malaysia’s position as a digital leader in the ASEAN region.

The investments reflect growing international confidence in Malaysia’s digital ecosystem. Of the 148 companies awarded MD status during this period, 27% are in the Artificial Intelligence (AI) sector, followed by Data Centres & Cloud (23%) and Global Business Services (11.5%). These figures highlight the country’s increasing focus on innovation-led sectors. Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) CEO Anuar Fariz Fadzil emphasized that these results demonstrate global trust in Malaysia’s infrastructure, talent pool, and pro-business policies. He noted that Malaysia is not only building capabilities but also fostering a culture of innovation to support long-term national growth.
