Herbalife Builds on UiTM Partnership to Champion Health, Nutrition, and Entrepreneurship

The renewed partnership sealed between Herbalife and UiTM was held at the National Association of Physical Education and Sports Science (NAPESS) International Conference 2025.

Herbalife, a premier health and wellness company, community, and platform has renewed its partnership with Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), marking the continuation of a journey that began in 2022. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), exchanged at UiTM Shah Alam, reflects both organisations’ shared commitment to advance nutrition education, drive research in sports science, and promote healthier lifestyles across the country.

Prof. Dr. Raja Mohammed Firhad Raja Azidin, Dean of the Faculty of Sports Science and Recreation, UiTM, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Hussain Ismail, Director of Industry and Government Network Centre (INC), and Steven Chin, Senior Director and General Manager of Herbalife Malaysia and Singapore, hold the signed Memorandum of Understanding that marks the launch of a series of initiatives aimed at strengthening collaboration between academia, industry, and the community.

The ceremony saw Steven Chin, Senior Director and General Manager of Herbalife Malaysia and Singapore, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Raja Mohammed Firhad Raja Azidin, Dean of the Faculty of Sports Science and Recreation, officially exchanging the MoU, witnessed by faculty members, students, and senior officials.

According to Steven Chin, “Herbalife is honoured to renew our collaboration with UiTM, an institution we deeply respect. Over the past three years, our partnership has given students direct access to international nutrition experts, created platforms for coaches and athletes to learn from global best practices, and opened doors for young entrepreneurs to explore careers in health and wellness. These initiatives have shaped lives, built confidence, and created real opportunities. With this renewed MoU, we want to go even further by embedding wellness, nutrition, and sports science into the everyday lives of Malaysians, ensuring the next generation is healthier, stronger, and ready to lead.”

Since the beginning of their collaboration, Herbalife and UiTM have rolled out a range of initiatives designed to bridge academia, industry, and community. Knowledge-sharing sessions with Herbalife’s global experts have given UiTM students rare exposure to international perspectives in nutrition and sports science. The MASM Football Science Workshop Series brought together expert coaches and athletes, equipping them with practical tools to apply scientific methods in training, injury prevention, and player development. By introducing performance assessment techniques and fuelling strategies used by international teams, the programme has raised the benchmark for football science in Malaysia, empowering coaches to better support the nation’s athletes.

Meanwhile, the Herbalife–UiTM Entrepreneurship Programme has empowered students from varied backgrounds with the confidence, knowledge, and mentorship to see health and wellness as not only a lifestyle, but also a viable career path.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Raja Mohammed Firhad added, “Working with industry leaders like Herbalife helps us bridge the gap between theory and practice. By combining UiTM’s academic strengths with Herbalife’s real-world expertise, we have been able to create programmes that prepare our students to step confidently into their careers and give our athletes the knowledge to perform at their best. We look forward to seeing how this renewed partnership will continue to create a positive impact on our students.”

The MoU was exchanged at the National Association of Physical Education and Sports Science (NAPESS) International Conference 2025, themed “Optimizing Performance and Wellness: Innovation in Health, Exercise, and Sports Sciences”. At the conference, Herbalife hosted an industry engagement session, and Dr. Simon Sum, Herbalife’s Director of Scientific Affairs, delivered a presentation titled “Efficient Engines: Optimizing Carbohydrate Metabolism for Peak Endurance”. Dr Simon’s presentation explored the vital role of carbohydrates not only as the body and brain’s primary energy source, but also as the key fuel for moderate to high-intensity activities. He also addressed the ongoing debates surrounding low-carbohydrate and ketogenic diets, offering a balanced perspective on these popular nutrition trends.
