At 11 a.m. this morning, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim made the announcement of the cabinet reshuffle at his office. He then went to the ceremony to award the letters of appointment, take the oath of office and allegiance, and administer the Federal Minister’s oath of secrecy, which is scheduled to start at 2.30 p.m.
Anwar also had time to share about the new cabinet members, which totaled 60 people, but the total number of cabinet members is still low when compared to the 70 members of the cabinet during the previous administration.
Thus, there are five new ministers who were appointed as members of the new ministerial congregation, namely, Gobind Singh Deo, Datuk Seri Dr. Dzulkefly Ahmad, Datuk Seri Johari Ghani, Steven Sim, and Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan. Meanwhile, the minister who was dropped from the cabinet was YB Sivakumar a/l Varathraju.
The total number of ministers increased from 28 to 31.
Meanwhile, the five new deputy ministers are Datuk Seri Noraini Ahmad, M Kulasegaran, Dato Ramanan, Wong Kah Woh, and Dr. Zulkifli Hassan, who replaced two deputy ministers who were dropped, namely, Ramkarpal Singh and Datuk Siti Aminah Aching.
Thus, the total number of deputy ministers increased from 27 to less than 29 people.
